“There is music that makes you happy.” This is how the legendary German drummer and composer Günter Baby Sommer begins the liner notes which he wrote for the new enw publication “Spirituality”. And he adds: “Here we are listening to a live performance of music that is highly human.” Against the background of this sincere statement, enw is grateful to present “Spirituality” in memory of the great German bassist and composer Jürgen Wuchner, who passed away in 2020. As Sommer – who turns 80 this year – rightly asserts, “It is a stroke of luck that recording engineer Klaus Endel pressed the record button and saved this moment from what Eric Dolphy once coined as ‘the best is gone in the air.’” This is a remarkable remastering project featuring a live recording of an extraordinary concert by three exceptional musicians: Jürgen Wuchner on bass, Günter “Baby” Sommer on drums, and Christopher Dell on vibraphone.
