International Conference ‘Stadt.Land.Farbe’

How can colours contribute to sustainable and identity-creating living spaces? The international conference ‘Stadt.Land.Farbe’ of the DFZ Deutsches Farbenzentrum e.V. on 27 and 28 September 2024 at the Berufliche Schule Holz.Farbe.Textil in Hamburg is dedicated to this question. The Faculty of Design at the HAWK in Hildesheim is organising the conference together with the Fachschule Farbtechnik on the occasion of its 90th anniversary. The event is supported by RAL Farben.
Colour is a pragmatic and effective means of designing squares and façades, increasing diversity and encouraging participation – strengthening well-being and identification with the city or village.
Urban design is more than just functional architecture and infrastructure. Colour plays a decisive role in the atmosphere, diversity and sense of community in urban and rural areas. ‘The skilful use of colour can enhance squares and façades, promote participation and strengthen identification with a town or village,’ emphasises Prof. Timo Rieke, Chairman of the Board of the German Colour Centre.
The potential of colour in architecture and urban planning has so far been underestimated. ‘Unfortunately, colour design is often only a marginal topic in education and training. We want to change that,’ says Prof Rieke. The conference aims to highlight strategies for incorporating colour more sustainably into the design of living spaces – between tradition and the future.
The programme combines lectures and discussions from different perspectives: Speakers from the fields of crafts, research, architecture, design, art, industry and urban planning include.
