Abstract
Kolkata Monodosis. Tacit Urbanism
Christopher Dell
My lecture/performance will try to show aspects of the urban-intervention-project Kolkata Monodosis. The intention was to use my musical practice as a kind of performative plug-in in the city, that at the same time reacts to the specific situation as well as provoking interaction with the everyday pedestrians and hawkers. Through this specific mode of practice it was possible to provoke new ways of researching on urban situations and to raise questions on todays practice, use of urban space. The project was also complemented by the book Tacit Urbanism, that includes research and documentation, interviews, photographs and an incisive analysis on the hawker case in Kolkata. I will also talk about the important collaboration with local artists like Patrick Ghose and Ranu Gosh and others, that were involved deeply in the project.
