Dell – Lillinger – Westergaard (D, S)

On 24 March 2024, Dell-Lillinger-Westergaard will play in this combination for the first time in Esslingen. The three composer-performers Christopher Dell (vibraphone), Christian Lillinger (drums) and Jonas Westergaard (double bass) will be bringing their new programme “Extended Beats” with them, which operates at the interface between avant-garde jazz and new music, blurring the boundaries between composition and improvisation.
Dell-Lillinger-Westergaard’s music is characterised by its energetic intensity, physicality and architectural complexity. Transcending conventional genre boundaries, it is also characterised by great depth of focus and plasticity. Between open form and fixed structures, Dell-Lillinger-Westergaard explore the musical material, constantly shedding new light on it and developing tonal richness.
The ensemble also sees itself as a platform that offers space for experimental guests. With the trio at its core, the method of co-composition is applied in an expanded way, for example with Tamara Stefanovich, Johannes Brecht, Bob Degen or Mat Maneri. The knowledge structure of the ensemble, which has grown over many years, forms a stable basis for its forward-looking musical research work.
Dell-Lillinger-Westergaard regularly play concerts in a wide variety of venues, whether in the Philharmonie, Resonanzraum or Neue Nationalgalerie, Konzerthaus or club, are guests at festivals such as Moers, Klangspuren, Contrapunkt, Fri Resonans, Saalfelden, Donaueschinger or Witten and tour Europe from Scandinavia to Portugal. In 2023-2024, the ensemble will also be organising its own festivals in Paris, Cologne and Berlin for the first time.
