Raumtheorien des Städtischen
Es war ein Privileg und eine Ehre, für 6 Monate im Bundesatelier für Architektur in der Cité Internationale de Paris zu residieren. In dieser Zeit konnte ich an verschiedenen Buchprojekten im Bereich der Städtebautheorie arbeiten. Ich freue mich sehr, dass das erste davon, “Raum und Handlung”, nun im transcript Verlag erschienen ist. Es handelt sich um ein Grundlagenbuch zum Thema, das ich schon lange Zeit einmal machen wollte. Vielen Dank an Alex Lambert von Constructlabfür die wunderbare Titelzeichnung “Le jardin des herbes de Saint Monique”.
It was a privilege and honor to reside for 6 months at the Bundesatelier für Architektur at the cité internationale de Paris. At the time I could work on different book projects in urban design theory. I am very pleased that the first one of these “Raum und Handlung” (“Space and action”) is published now at transcript Verlag . It’s a primer on the subject that I’ve wanted to do for a long time. About the contents of the book:
Global migration, climate change and economic and political crises are pushing conventional urban planning methods to their limits. The city is less and less characterised as a homogeneous object and is instead fragmenting into diverse material contexts of situated action. It is in this context that Christopher Dell for the first time puts contemporary texts on spatial theory into perspective that deal with the relationship between space and action. He develops a spatial theory of the urban, the quintessence of which is: constructive action with indeterminacy in structures of human and non-human actors can be thought of as the basis of spatial theory.
Weltweite Migration, der Klimawandel sowie ökonomische und politische Krisen bringen gängige Stadtplanungsverfahren an ihre Grenzen. Die Stadt weist immer weniger die Eigenschaften eines homogenen Objekts auf und zersplittert stattdessen in vielfältige materiale Zusammenhänge situierten Handelns. In diesem Kontext perspektiviert Christopher Dell erstmals raumtheoretische Grundlagentexte der Gegenwart, die sich mit dem Verhältnis von Raum und Handlung auseinandersetzen. Er entwirft eine Raumtheorie des Städtischen, deren Quintessenz lautet: Konstruktives Handeln mit Unbestimmtheit in Gefügen menschlicher und nicht-menschlicher Akteure kann als Grundlage der Raumtheorie gedacht werden.
